Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr. Veronica Fernandez Stanganelli is a Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry in the School of Medicine (Mackay) and Consultant Psychiatrist (FRANZCP). After completing her Medical Doctorate Degree (Uruguay – South America) in 1980, she received her specialist Degree as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (Uruguay Fellowship, 1984) and she was recognized in the Faculty of Child Psychiatry as FRANZCP fellow in 2010. Dr. Stanganelli has been working since 2002 in Mackay at the Division of Mental Health and ATODS as a Consultant Psychiatrist. In addition, she was trained as a Specialist in Eating Disorders in Argentine, Uruguay, and USA, being part of the Academy for Eating Disorders (USA).

Moreover, she has been developing communitarian programs in the promotion and early intervention of attachment disorders (Mackay City Council, Teddy Bear Hospital, first “Mackay Welcoming Ceremony”) in Australia and “Life Project” (NGO) in Uruguay. Dr. Stanganelli has been a researcher-lecturer about childhood obesity and eating disorders for more than 25 years. Her investigation in Anorexia Nervosa among rural areas was awarded best Poster presentation at the RANZCP Congress in Christchurch in 2004.
